Do you have a suggestion for a Thanksgiving prayer before we eat as a familty?

Public Comments

  1. My family never does a formal prayer it is more of a "Dear Lord thanks for the good stuff, look over us and those who we care about". God doesn't care about specifics as long as you try.
  2. Not necessarily a prayer but.... go around the table one by one and have everybody name one or two things that they are truly thankful for.
  3. Heavenly Father, We gather before you today and give thanks for all that you have provided. We are so blessed to be able to gather as family (and friends) at one table and to share the good food You have provided for us. Although trouble may come our way, we are grateful that we can turn to You, Lord and know that You are there for us. Thank You again for our many blessings and bless those who are less fortunate and may be separated from their families today. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen Something like that.
  4. Rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub...amen. All kidding aside, just go around the table and have each person name one thing they are thankful for...
  5. You can do the typical "before meal" prayer: Bless us, O Lord, and these your gifts, which we are about to receive from your bounty. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Or, give a prayer of thanks: Please God know that I am thankful for everything you gave me. I'm even thankful for my challenges. I'm also thankful for having such a loving creator. Please continue sending me graces. Thank you for everything! Amen. Check the source link for other prayers of thanks. I also recommend that you go around the table and have each person say what they're thankful for. Don't let it by the typical replies. Make it something worthwhile. I hope this helps. Happy Thanksgiving!!
  6. Before my family eats we always make a circle, and go around and say what we are thankful for. Or you can just say a prayer of thanks, or you can follow what is in your heart.
  7. My family uses one by Harry Jewell, a 19th Century preacher. It goes like this: Our Father in Heaven, We give thanks for the pleasure Of gathering together for this occasion. We give thanks for this food Prepared by loving hands. We give thanks for life, The freedom to enjoy it all And all other blessings. As we partake of this food, We pray for health and strength To carry on and try to live as You would have us. This we ask in the name of Christ, Our Heavenly Father. AMEN
