Where can I find out about having a family in need over for Thanksgiving dinner?
I would like to invite a family into my house to eat Thanksgiving dinner with my family. Just a meal and maybe a movie or game. Where would i find people like this?

- Try a homeless shelter?
- You'd be asking for trouble.
- Try through your church. My family did that one year and thats how we found a family
- I would call the local shelter or the Red Cross. Good luck and God Bless!
- call the church they usually know these people in need. i think thats very kind of you too do... have a blessed dinner.. there should be more people like you in this world ......
- talk to your pastor or someone at church, they will know.
- You could contact your state's family resource office or local church. Good luck and have a great Thanksgiving
- Check with your local children and youth services as they can usually find you a deserving family. My husband and I play Santa and Mrs. Santa at Christmas and we get names from there...all underprivleged. Another place you can check is the local abuse shelter for battered women and their children. My local chapter is asking for gift donations for Christmas. You could also check with a church. Good luck and God bless you for wanting to do this wonderful thing for a family.
- Call your local department of human services or perhaps the Salvation army. They have certain rules about things like this. I know that everyone in your family must to up to date on immunizations and such. Bless you for wanting to do this. I hope that you can. Let me know what happens.
- Check w/ your local church, or Salvation Army. As for bringing them into your home, that is iffy...and could be dangerous. Better yet, why not have you and the whole family participate in a holiday soup kitchen.....take it a step further and bring any extra warm clothes and extra bedding?
- Sadly it probably isn't the best idea to invite strangers into your home. No matter how much you'd like to be involved on a personal level. Perhaps you know people that have no where to go. That is just a different sort of need. See other suggestions below
- It's wonderful that you are willing to open your heart and your wallet like this! I wish there were more people like you. Churches or places like Catholic Charities know where and who need help. They work together with local agencies to get people covered. The thing that I learned though is that people can bring themselves to go to those places easier than into someones home. Nobody really wants to be an object of charity. Also, in with the poor are people who have become very street-wise to survive. It might not be a great idea to open yourself to danger. If you still want to help people directly, many cities have meal that you can assist cooking for or serving at. Again, there are agencies places like CC that can tell you where you could go. And, even if your don't want to deal with CC, don't worry. They are not churchy. Bless you that you have a heart tender enough to hear the cry of the poor and not a heart of stone!
- Im not sure I would call your local church or shelter, but that might be tricky, May I suggest instead going down to the shelter and passing out food with the volunteers? You will be able to make a difference in not only one familys holiday but many at the same time! Good luck! And happy holidays!
