- just say whats on your heart. prayers aren't something that need to be written out and rehearsed. just thank God for bringing your whole family together and allowing ya'll to spend time together.
- If you want something short and traditional you can say: "For this table before us and all our many blessings, may the Lord make us truly grateful. Amen"
- That's a nice tradition. "Dear Lord, we thank you for this day and the many blessings you have bestowed upon us. Lord, we ask that you watch over our family, friends and loved ones where ever they may be. Lord, we ask that you guide our hands and our hearts as we proceed down the path of life you have set before us. We ask that you bless this food in nourishment of thy bodies and thy bodies in thy service. In Jesus' name we pray, amen."
- Just speak from your heart. Begin with something like " Our Heavenly Father, thank you so much for being able to gather together as a family and thank you for..." (specific blessings, like the food, new family members, protection from disaster, the closeness you have, etc. ) then ask him to bless the food, continue to bless your family and watch over those who aren't there. close by thanking him briefly again, "In the name of thy son, Jesus Christ, Amen." basically, it's: open, thank, ask, thank, close.
- An old simple one: God is great, God is good. Let us thank Him for this food. Amen.
- Good food, Good meat, Times a wasting let's eat.
- I'm with Allie... you're just talking to God, really. I'm guessing you don't rehearse what you're going to say when you call your best friend on the phone, because you don't have to -- because she thinks you're great and because you're not on stage or anything. Well, God thinks you're great, too. You might still be a little nervous praying out loud in front of people, and that's okay. I recommend you go with something SHORT! You're less likely to stumble over your tongue (remember, if you do, you're with family and they love you), and less likely to forget something. Not to mention that everyone is hungry... You could pray something like, "Dear Lord, thank you so much for this day. Thank you for this wonderful meal. Bless the ones that provided it, bless the ones that prepared it, bless all of us who are going to eat it. Thank you that we can all be together. For all your blessings, make us truly grateful. Amen." Before the meal, try to spend a few minutes by yourself remembering all the good things in your life, to put yourself in a thankful frame of mind. It's easy to say thanks when you really mean it.
