- I had this same problem with my mom last year. But she told me not to dare change the menu, that if she was going to cheat just one day a year, it would be Thanksgiving Day, I did make some simple alterations though. I didn't use butter, I used olive oil. Use fat free broth in your stuffing or dressings. Toss some cubed sweet potato with three tablespoons of honey, the juice of 1 lemon, salt and pepper and bake them in a 350 oven until they are tender. Good luck.
- Your mom is right. But to help keep the cholesterol levels down in your food,,,,you can change some simple things.. 1. Replace your butter with 'heart smart' butter. 2. Omit Salt from your recipes and replace with other spices. Let each guest add salt if they so desire. 3. When cooking foods that will contain 'fats', chill or add ice to cause the 'fat' to harden and remove it from the dish. 4. Use olive oil only. 5. Use eggbeaters in place of eggs in recipes. Just make sure the ingredients you use are suitable for a 'healthy heart'. Little changes make a BIG difference. Good Luck.
