any ideas for a funny thanksgiving prayer? some of my family are christains and some are into whitchcraft. We say the same boring old prayer every year. even though they don't believe in the same, We still like to give thanks (to who ever they may silently pray to) I am looking for a silly prayer that covers all grounds and still gets the point accross. There is also someone at thanksgiving that is on my whole family's sh*t list, I would also like to toss in some hints to this person, while in the prayer that he is not wanted there. He has hurt many and I just want him to know that he has messed with the wrong family. You know like the serenity prayer, there are several funny versions of that. any idea's?

Are you going to say a Prayer of Thanksgiving this year at Thanksgiving? Can you think of 10 things you are thankful for, despite your Pain? :) What I am thankful for: 1. That I am healthy 2. That my children are alive and well and have jobs and trying to do good with their lives 3. That I have a place to live, with heat 4. That I have running water 5. That I have a way to buy food for Thanksgiving because I have a job 6. Thankful for Memories of people who love me that I get to spend time with at times, through the years. 7. Thankful for my friends 8. Thankful to God for Salvation and his power to help me forgive and be free from bitterness that could have been caused by various things I have been through. 9. Thankful for all the people who do service jobs that we take for granted like driving Garbage Trucks, Delivering the Mail, Working in Grocery Stores and Gas Stations. I'm thankful for people who SMILE. 10. I am thankful that I do have people who love me .....And for this beautiful Earth God made. what is left of it! :)
What are you doing to help people who will go hungry this Thanksgiving as many do everyday? It's all about giving thanks for your family and what you have. If you can though I encourage any one who can to volunteer at a soup kitchen and keep all those who are less fortunate in your prayers. You can donate canned goods to a local Food Bank or money to an International Hunger Program such as Freedom from Hunger. There are millions of people out there who will go hungry on Thanksgiving as they do everyday. Not just people in underdeveloped countries around the world, but also right in the U.S. kids and others are straving. Many just getting only one meal a day. Two on rare occassions. The government now says 35 million Americans don't know where their next meal is going to come from, and that number includes 13 million children. That is the US alone. To me it is sad to see some people talking about how much they are going to eat and sleep during the Thanksgiving holidays while at the same time people right around the block and millions around the world will be starving and some they having no inkly or thought about what is going on and many who do really don't care or don't do anything in there power to help. After gorging and full food is wasted like it is as abundate as water while those lacking food can't afford to waste anything and despite that still wouldn't be enough to satisfy their hunger. When you think about it just a small act of kindness or some type such as a few canned goods would make a big difference in a family's life, especially at this time of year. Just wanted to give everyone something to think about. Just do what you can. It takes a collaborative effort. Thanks and have a safe and happy thanksgiving holiday. I grew up poor in Georgia but now I am 19 getting a degree in microbiology and planning on working for the CDC soon but I know how it feels to be hungry and poor and its not great at all. but now I doing all I can as my part to try to alleviate hunger in the world
Did you say a prayer of thanks before your Thanksgiving meal? Was it appropriately long? Did you throw the word "just" in there a lot? I get such a kick out of it when True Christians (tm) always throw the word "just" into prayers. (As in, "Dear Lord, we'd just like to thank you today for just bringing us together...) Also, speak in King James English with lots of "thees" and "thous". Snap! I love that!
What is the purpose of prayer? If God knows everything and has control over every situation, what is our purpose of prayer for others? I get the purpose of prayers of thanksgiving, as we should always be grateful for what we have. Yet, if one is sick, what is our purpose for praying for their health if God is in control and knows what will happen? It's not like we can change it.
Will you pray this prayer? I got this in my email and I only had a handful of people to send it to, so I thought of you good Christians. ______ A prayer in Thanksgiving to Our Lord: Dear Lord, I thank You for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness. Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You. Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. And It's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will. Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak... Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for those that are l ost and can't find their way. I pray for those that are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don't know You intimately. I pray for those that will delete this without sharing it with others. I pray for those that don't believe. But I thank you that I believe. I believe that God changes people and God changes things. I pray for all my sisters and brothers. For each and every family member in their households. I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes that they are out of debt and all their needs are met. I pray that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than God. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees it. God Bless!!!!!!!!!!! Just repeat this phrase and see how God moves !! God I love you and I need you, come into my heart, And bless all those we pray for and all who are in most need of your mercy. Amen. And May God bless all of you.
thanksgiving checklist? 10 RULES FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER AT MY HOUSE 1. Don't get in line asking questions about the food. "Who made the potato salad? Is there egg in it? Are the greens fresh? Is the meat in the greens turkey or pork? Who made the macaroni and cheese? What kind of pie is that? Who made it? Ask one more question and I will punch you in your mouth, knocking out all your fronts so you won't be able to eat anything. 2. If you can't walk or are missing any limbs, sit your ass down until someone makes your plate for you. Dinner time is not the time for you to be independent. Nibble on them damn pecans and walnuts to hold you over until someone makes you a plate. 3. If you have kids under the age of twelve, I will escort their little asses to the basement and bring their food down to them. They are not going to tear my damn house up this year. Tell them that they are not allowed upstairs until it's time for Uncle Butchie to start telling family stories about their mommas and papas. If they come upstairs for any reason except for that they are bleeding to death, I will break a foot off in their asses! 4. There is going to be one prayer for Thanksgiving dinner! JUST ONE! We do not care that you are thankful that your 13 year old daughter gave birth to a healthy baby or your nephew just got out of jail. Save that talk for somebody who gives a damn. The time limit for the prayer is one minute. If you are still talking after that one minute is up, you will feel something hard come across your lips and they will be swollen for approximately 20 minutes. 5. Finish everything on your plate before you go up for seconds! If you don't, you will be cursed out and asked to stay your greedy ass home next year! 6. BRING YOUR OWN TUPPERWARE!! Don't let me catch you fixing yourself a plate in my good Tupperware knowing damn well that I will never see it again! Furthermore, if you didn't bring anything over, don't let me catch you making a plate period or it will be a misunderstanding. 7. What you came with is what you should leave with!! Do not leave my house with anything that doesn't belong to you. EVERYBODY WILL BE SUBJECTED TO A BODY SEARCH COMING AND GOING OUT OF MY DOMAIN!!! 8. Do not leave your kids so you can go hopping from house to house. This is not a DAYCARE CENTER ! There will be a kid-parent roll call every ten minutes. Any parent that is not present at the time of roll call, your child will be put outside until you come and get him or her. After 24 hours, I will call DHS on your ignorant ass!! 9. BOOK YOUR HOTEL ROOM BEFORE YOU COME INTO TOWN!! There will be no sleeping over at my house! You are to come and eat dinner and take your ass home or to your hotel room. EVERYBODY GETS KICK THE HELL OUT AT 11:00 pm. You will get a 15 minute warning bell ring. 10. Last but not least! ONE PLATE PER PERSON!! This is not a soup kitchen. I am not trying to feed your family until Christmas dinner! You will be supervised when you fix your plate. Anything over the appropriate amount will be charged to you before you leave. There will be a cash register at the door. Thanks to Cousin Alfred and his greedy ass family, we now have a credit card machine! So VISA and MASTERCARD are now being accepted. NO FOOD STAMPS OR ACCESS CARDS YET! ________________________________
Do you think that thanksgiving for prayers can be expressed through the internet? Spiritually theoretical question: suppose a great number of people prayed for, sent vibes for, invoked the universe for this anonymous, unnamed guy's mom in Louisiana, who had some pretty risky surgery, but then came through with so many flying colors that even the doctors and nurses were, like, amazed, could this anonymous, unnamed guy use the internet, or even ... I don't know ... a board like this on Religion and Spirituality, to thank everybody who prayed for her and to say how much he loves his contentious, dysfunctional, loyal, and immenently loving community for their support during a very emotional and taxing time in his life? Spiritually, theologically, and metaphysically speaking, of course.
Who wants to push the envelope on their prayer life and brotherly love? What do you think about this exercise in praying with a thankful heart? 1) Think of a person that bugs the crap out of you. I don't mean somebody who occasionally annoys you. I mean somebody who consistently makes you want to wring his skinny neck. 2) Say a short prayer of thanks for that person, but (this is the hard and the important part) make sure that when you pray there isn't any rancor or hate or ill-will in your heart; make sure that when you pray for that person, you are feeling nothing but thanks to God for whatever lesson that person teaches you. Caveat: Your prayer can't criticize that person; you can't tell God "to heal that idiot" or "teach him the error of his sinful ways." It has to be a prayer of thanksgiving for that person and you have to do it with as much love in your heart as you can. I'll settle for good will if mustering up true brotherly love is impossible.
What are you grateful for this wonderful (CANADIAN) Thanksgiving weekend? I'm grateful that through much prayer and faith, that my dad overcame WEST NILE. He got hit with the worst possible you can get, and they said he'd never recover, yet the will to live is strong, and I know that prayer and love and knowing we were there by his side every day, got him through. I think the docs and nurses expected him to die, when he didn't, they said prepare for a nursing home, he'll never recover, next day he opened his eyes, they said he needs surgery now for a permanent feeding tube, two days later he yanked out the one up his nose and said I want to eat! Next day he got out of bed on his own and walked...let's send him to rehab for a few months. One week later he came home. That was yesterday. If that isn't a cause for celebration and thanks I don't know what is. God bless and always believe in miracles. Where there is faith, all things are possible! Happy Thanksgiving! It's Thanksgiving to US of Canada Muslima...There is more to the world than just the US of A shnookums. Much, much, more.
To whom will you give the glory on Thanksgiving this year? When you sit down at your Thanksgiving dinner this year surrounded by your family what will you have to be thankful for. If you are thankful to whom will you give thanks, be it to your choice of faith, or yourself, your wife or husband? I am just curious how many will be partaking in this tradition and how your family views this very popular day. I shall be enjoying my day off at my in-laws with my husband, children and my parents. A huge Christian family, We will partake in prayers of thanksgiving, way too much deep fried turkey, and hopefully watch the Cowboys stomp the Jets. Okay I should of aroused some interest with atleast that last prompt. Have a wonderful holiday no matter how you choose to celebrate it. Even if it is just another day.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!? I hope everyone has a safe & happy thanksgiving. Remember to say a prayer for our troops overseas who can't be with their famililes, and say a prayer for their families also. This time of year has to be especially tough for them, and I think prayer is one of the best things we can do for them.

Did your history teacher ever teach you this? “Resolved, That a joint committee of both houses to be directed to wait upon the President of the United States, to request that he would recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging, with grateful hearts, the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a Constitution of government for safety and happiness” The Presidents reaction: "Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly implore His protection and favor… Now of these States to the service of the great and glorious Being Who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was that was or that will be …(and) to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue and the increase of science among us." “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great Nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religious, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason alone, people of other faiths have been afforded freedom of worship here.” “It has been frequently remarked that it seems to have been reserved to the people of this country, by their conduct and example, to decide the important question, whether societies of men are really capable or not of establishing good government from reflection and choice, or whether they are forever destined to depend for their political constitutions on accident and force.” Alexander Hamilton From The Federalist Papers #1 “On every question of construction, [we must] carry ourselves back to the time when the constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the test, or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was a part” Thomas Jefferson “No free government now exists in the world, unless where Christianity is acknowledged, and is the religion of the country.” Pennsylvania Supreme Court 1824. “The doctrines of Jesus are simple, and tend all to the happiness of mankind.” Thomas Jefferson. “I concur with the author in considering the moral precepts of Jesus as more pure, correct, and sublime than those of ancient philosophers.” Thomas Jefferson [I]t is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. John Adams. All of these quotes were taken from speeches at official state functions or writings regardarding official state activities. Most are taken from the federalist papers. The founders official explainations of their intent in forming the constitution. Therefore they are relevant to the interpretation of the first amendment. While it is true that the constitution prevents the federal government from forming an official state church, that does not exclude them from participating in religious activities such as sectarian prayer during official functions. In fact it does not even prohibit them from promoting one religion over another. The purpose of the Establishment Clause was and is to forbid the congress from establishing an official state church or from preventing the individual states from establishing a state church. The purpose was not to make sure that those of minority religions are never exposed to religious thought that might offend them, but to ensure that congress can not interfere with the free practice of religion by any group of believers. In other words the establishment clause is intended to act as a foundation for the free excercise clause. My feild of Study is: Constitutional Law Jefferson took no official part in the forming of the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. Therefore Jefferson's opinion on the subject has no legal grounding, but just to clarify: The Church and State letter was written several years after the first amendment was added to the constitution and simply confirmed what I stated above in regards to the establishment clasue. "No person can be punished for entertaining or professing religious beliefs or disbeliefs, for church attendance or non-attendance." - Everson v. Board of Education, 330 U.S. 1 (1947) Often quoted, but sorely misunderstood. The court found for the Board of Education allowing public funds be used to transport student to private Sectarian Schools. Consider these words that Thomas Jefferson wrote on the front of his well- worn Bible: "I am a Christian, that is to say a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus. I have little doubt that our whole country will soon be rallied to the unity of our Creator and, I hope, to the pure doctrine of Jesus also." "Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the lamb and purge my heart by the Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of thy son, Jesus Christ, that living in thy fear, and dying in thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of thy son, Jesus Christ." From the prayer diary of George Washington Twenty times, in the course of my late reading, have I been upon the point of breaking out, This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it!!!" But in this exclamatic I should have been as fanatical as (Parson) Bryant or (Pedagogue) Cleverly. Without religion this world would be something not fit to be mentioned in polite company, I mean Hell.” John Adams. Have I said anything about Christianity here?
Not invited for Thanksgiving? I have recently been going to a prayer group which has been myself and two other women who have already known each other for years. They have decided to make this a weekly event which I can't always attend due to my erratic work schedule. One of the women mentioned I must not be real serious about this group, but I have attended each time I can. They seem to not like when I don't show up, but I don't see the big deal. One of the women told me the other day they had plans for a Thanksgiving dinner inviting some other people. Not one mention for me to be invited. Since I have found this out, I don't care to ever show up for the other meeting, why bother? I think it is rude, and unbelivable the one woman would discuss with me their plans for a Thanksgiving dinner. I told her this morning, Thank God I was invited to someone's house, I think she sort of got it then, and told me I could come to theirs. I don't know how to tell this though tactfully. Any suggestions?
Are you going to remember the Lord this Thanksgiving? And give God thanks for all the Grace we have received? In all things give thanks for this pleases God. My Thanksgiving thanks is: Thank you Lord that even though my husband is sick & I am staying home with him, I can cook the Turkey Thanksgiving dinner myself & have healing time with my husband. Thank you Lord that I can be with my family back in my home town & my family elsewhere this Thanksgiving in my memories. Thank you Lord that even though my daughter (in her last month of pregnancy) has to work in the hospital four days/12hr shifts in a row this Thanksgiving, you are going to answer my prayer request that you send sufficient Winged Angel hospital nurses to help all patients & that healing & physical patient ability will improve greatly so all will have much to be thankful for even in the hospital. Thank you Lord for my husband making the decision (asking for prayers from family for strength) to quit drinking alcohol. That he will he able to quit drinking & liver heal above & beyond all expectations this New Year. mysterio, God is ending the suffering of innocent people 24/7. If the innocent people cast all their cares on Him, because He cares for them. I consider the innocent people the abused children or the persecuted Church. God is there for them. It is man's worst sin to persecute & torture innocent to death. Not God doing this. Jesus was a victim Himself, so God could atone for even this worst sin. Whipstaf, You could thank God for being an overcomer. God sent His Word & healed us of all diseases. So? Thank God for His healing provided for you. Who Is he who overcomes? He who is born of God. And what is our victory? Our faith. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
Police, Fire, Ambulance, Air/Sea/Mountain Rescue and Doctors and Nurses - May I thank you? My husband is in hospital tonight, and it just reminded me of how much we take for granted the professionalism, dedication and sacrifice others make on our behalf. Some are paid. But not enough. Some are volunteers, and that shames Government, but restores our faith in human nature. I work with the Police force and acknowledge their dedication, the very difficult job they do, for little thanks. We take so much for granted. Will you join with me in a prayer of thanksgiving for those who serve us?
Why do some people do really well in life and things come to them easy? Interested in any thoughts on this. Here is one possible answer: courtesy of practicalstuff.blogspot dot com The thoughts of many people are set on tommorrow. Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. We should do something with our thoughts that will help us to focus on today. Phillipians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Share your daily goals and plans with God. Matthew 7:7 Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Thanksgiving dinner at the grandparents.? I need some adivce or prayers. I'm having dinner for the first time at my boyfriends grandparents house. We dated for a couple of years but always had to work on Thanksgiving so I could never go. Its a tradition for the newest guest at the table to say grace before dinner, and that would be me. I never prayed before eating. What do I say? Don't tell me to go to church, I do sometimes. But I never had to say grace in front of a lot of people. I don't want to be rude and refuse. Any suggestions or prayers to say?

Just give a little thanks from your soul. You don't have to be religious to be thankful for the good things. st alio, That is sad that you (& other answers on here) won't thank God who blessed you with all these people & pets in your life. Pendolino, It doesn't matter. Go purchase a turkey, yams, potatoes, pumpkin pie, etc... Get a dinner going. You can celebrate Thanksgiving with US. That goes for the rest of you who live in another country. And if there isn't the funds, you can just Thank God for all the things to be thankful in your life. It is the spirit of Thanksgiving that is important. az bandi, Today is different, even if you thank God everyday. Others are thinking about what to be thankful for today also. So? That makes it different. Because of the unity in Thanksgiving. With so many people. But I know that a special prayer should go out for those who are alone & depressed today. Because also, suicide rates can go up during the Holidays. So? To all the lonely people out there, may God bless you especially with 'joy' this Thanksgiving. The Joy of the Lord is our strength. syntax error, God gave you the ability to make the money to pay for the food. So? Thank God for the grace to provide good food.
What Do You Think of the Real Story of Thanksgiving??? Thanksgiving It's True History!!! By: Julia White (Research materials were given to me by Terye Gonzalez, Apache, on the history of our Thanksgiving traditions. Thank you, Terye, for your contributions to understanding history and tradition.) As history teaches us, the greatest conflicts and the bloodiest wars throughout time have been waged because of belief systems and boundaries. We can trace this from the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition through Hitler to the "ethnic cleansing" now going on around the world. This mentality does not tolerate differing political, social and religious beliefs, and it does not hesitate to sieze another's land and property if it suits a purpose. It was the custom in European countries to mark the boundaries of land with fences ranging from palisades to low rock walls. Once word spread throughout Europe and Spain about this wonderful land called The Americas, which was wild, untamed and unclaimed, this new territory became a safe haven for outlaws, prisoners, exiles, and the radical element of politics, social structure and religious practices - the violent and the non-conformists. Even though the first explorers and early settlers had been warned about the heathen savages found in the "New World", they found the First Peoples of this land curious about these strange people, and more than willing to teach them how to survive and live well in their new surroundings. The flow of people into this country was slow in the beginning and, even though there was the occasional hothead among the newcomers, life was generally a peaceful co-existence for almost 150 years. However, as the trickle of settlers turned into a steady river, the atmosphere began to change. In 1614, a band of English explorers had landed in the vicinity of Massachusetts Bay. When they returned home, they took with them Native slaves they had captured, and left smallpox behind. By the time the Puritan pilgrims sailed the Mayflower into southern Massachusetts Bay, entire nations of New England Natives were already extinct, having been totally exterminated by smallpox. The Puritans were religious radicals being driven into exile out of England. Since their story is well known, I will not repeat it here. They settled and built a colony which they called the "Plymouth Plantation", near the ruins of a former Native village of the Pawtuxet Nation. Only one Pawtuxet had survived, a man named Squanto, who had spent time as a slave to the English. Since he understood the language and customs of the Puritans, he taught them to use the corn growing wild from the abandoned fields of the village, taught them to fish, and about the foods, herbs and fruits of this land. Squanto also negotiated a peace treaty between the Puritans and the Wampanoag Nation, a very large Native nation which totally surrounded the new Plymouth Plantation. Because of Squanto's efforts, the Puritans enjoyed almost 15 years of peaceful harmony with the surrounding Natives, and they prospered. At the end of their first year, the Puritans held a great feast following the harvest of their new farming efforts. The feast honored Squanto and their friends, the Wampanoags. The feast was followed by 3 days of "thanksgiving" celebrating their good fortune. This feast produced the image of the first Thanksgiving that we all grew up with as children. However, things were doomed to change. Until approximately 1629, there were only about 300 Puritans living in widely scattered settlements around New England. As word leaked back to England about their peaceful and prosperous life, more Puritans arrived by the boatloads. As the numbers of Puritans grew, the question of ownership of the land became a major issue. The Puritans came from the belief of individual needs and prosperity, and had no concept of tribal living, or group sharing. It was clear that these heathen savages had no claim on the land because it had never been subdued, cultivated and farmed in the European manner, and there were no fences or other boundaries marked. The land was clearly "public domain", and there for the taking. This attitude met with great resistance from the original Puritans who held their Native benefactors in high regard. These first Puritan settlers were summarily excommunicated and expelled from the church. With Bible passages in their hands to justify their every move, the Puritans began their march inland from the seaside communities. Joined by British settlers, the seized land, took the strong and young Natives as slaves to work the land, and killed the rest. When they reached the Connecticut Valley around 1633, they met a different type of force. The Pequot Nation, very large and very powerful, had never entered into the peace treaty negotiated by Squanto as had other New England Native nations. When 2 slave raiders were killed by resisting Natives, the Puritans demanded that the killers be turned over. The Pequot refused. What followed was the Pequot War, the bloodiest of the Native wars in the northeast. An army of over 200 settlers was formed, joined by over 1,000 Narragansett warriors. Because of the lack of fighting experience, and the vast numbers of the fierce Pequot warriors, Commander John Mason elected not to stage an open battle. Instead, the Pequot were attacked, one village at a time, in the hours before dawn. Each village was set on fire with its sleeping Natives burned alive. Women and children over 14 were captured to be sold as slaves; other survivors were massacred. The Natives were sold into slavery in The West Indies, the Azures, Spain, Algiers and England; everywhere the Puritan merchants traded. The slave trade was so lucrative that boatloads of 500 at a time left the harbors of New England. In 1641, the Dutch governor of Manhattan offered the first scalp bounty; a common practice in many European countries. This was broadened by the Puritans to include a bounty for Natives fit to be sold for slavery. The Dutch and Puritans joined forces to exterminate all Natives from New England, and village after village fell. Following an especially successful raid against the Pequot in what is now Stamford, Connecticut, the churches of Manhattan announced a day of "thanksgiving" to celebrate victory over the heathen savages. This was the 2nd Thanksgiving. During the feasting, the hacked off heads of Natives were kicked through the streets of Manhattan like soccer balls. The killing took on a frenzy, with days of thanksgiving being held after each successful massacre. Even the friendly Wampanoag did not escape. Their chief was beheaded, and his head placed on a pole in Plymouth, Massachusetts -- where it remained for 24 years. Each town held thanksgiving days to celebrate their own victories over the Natives until it became clear that there needed to be an order to these special occasions. It was George Washington who finally brought a system and a schedule to thanksgiving when he declared one day to be celebrated across the nation as Thanksgiving Day. It was Abraham Lincoln who decreed Thanksgiving Day to be a legal national holiday during the Civil War -- on the same day and at the same time he was ordering troops to march against the Sioux in Minnesota ..... (and subsequently ordered 38 Santee Sioux hung on christmas Eve for leaving the reservation in search of food...the promised supplies having never materialized) In our society, it is not uncommon for our modern celebrations to have arisen from black and evil beginnings. Over the centuries, Thanksgiving has become a special day to join with loved ones in an offering of thanks for our blessings. Some give of their time to help with the homeless and the hungry. It is now a day of giving, and of honor, and of true thanksgiving. I do not mean to diminish that. In your Thanksgivings to come, I would ask that you offer a silent prayer for the spirits of those who were sacrificed so long ago. You and I did not commit these atrocities, and we are certainly not responsible for the behavior of our ancestors be they red, white, black or yellow. However, we are charged with the responsibility of learning our true history, and of having the courage to behave with honor and dignity toward our fellow man. Remember that, if the lessons of history are not learned, they will surely repeat themselves. The todays and tomorrows of history are ours to shape. Shape them carefully.
Thanksgiving Dinner Speech? Hi everyone, we always go around the table saying what we are thankful for... every year one of us stands up and does the main speech/prayer... this year is mine... I have a lot of things i'm thankful for but how can i start it... or what is everyone saying? Happy thanksgiving
Is this a good Catholic prayer? Heavenly Father, I bow in worship and praise before you. I cover myself with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ as my protection. I surrender myself completely and unreservedly in every area of my life to You. I take a stand against all the workings of satan that would hinder me in my prayer life. I address myself only to the True and Living God and refuse any involvement of satan in my prayer. Satan, I command you, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, to leave my presence with all your demons. I bring the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ between us. It surrounds me like a mighty wall that you cannot penetrate. Heavenly Father, I worship You and give You praise. I recognize that You are worthy to receive all glory and honor and praise. I renew my allegiance to You and pray that the blessed Holy Spirit would enable me in this time of prayer. I am thankful, Heavenly Father, that You have loved me from past eternity and that You sent the Lord Jesus Christ into the world to die as my substitute. I am thankful that the Lord Jesus Christ came as my representative and that through Him You have completely forgiven me; You have adopted me into your family; You have assumed all responsibility for me; You have given me eternal life; You have given me the perfect righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ so I am now justified. I am thankful that in Him, you have made me complete, and that You have offered Yourself to me to be my daily help and strength. Heavenly Father, open my eyes that I might see how great You are and how complete Your provision is for this day. I am thankful that the victory the Lord Jesus Christ won for me on the Cross and in His resurrection has been given to me and that I am seated with the Lord Jesus Christ in the heavenlies. I take my place with Him in he heavenlies and recognize by faith that all wicked spirits and Satan himself are under my feet. I declare, therefore, that satan and his wicked spirits are subject to me in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am thankful for the Armor You have provided. I put on the Girdle of Truth, the Breastplate of Righteousness, the Sandals of Peace and the Helmet of Salvation. I lift up the Shield of Faith against all the fiery darts of the enemy; and I take in my hand the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. I choose to use Your Word against all the forces of evil in my life. I put on this Armor and live and pray in complete dependence upon You, blessed Holy Spirit. I am grateful, Heavenly Father, that the Lord Jesus Christ spoiled all principalities and powers and made a show of them openly and triumphed over them in Himself. I claim all that victory for my life today. I reject all the insinuations, and accusations, and the temptations of Satan. I affirm that the Word of God is true and I choose to live today in the light of God's Word. I choose, Heavenly Father, to live in obedience to You and in fellowship with Yourself. Open my eyes and show me the areas of my life that do not please You. Work in me to cleanse me from all ground that would give satan a foothold against me. I do in every way stand into all that it means to be Your adopted child and I welcome all the ministry of the Holy Spirit. By faith and in dependence upon You, I put off the fleshly works of the evil one and stand into all the victory of the crucifixion where the Lord Jesus Christ provided cleansing from the old nature. I put on the Your holiness and stand into all the victory of the resurrection and the provision He has made for me to live above sin. Therefore, today I put off all forms of selfishness and put on the new nature with its love. I put off all forms of fear and put on the new nature with its courage. I put off all forms of weakness and put on the new nature with its strength. I put off all forms of lust and put on the new nature with its righteousness, purity, and honesty. I am trusting You to show me how to make this practical in my daily life. In every way I stand into the victory of the ascension and glorification of the Lord Jesus Christ, whereby all the principalities and powers were made subject to Him. I claim my place in Christ as victorious with Him over all the enemies of my soul. Blessed Holy Spirit, I pray that You would fill me. Come into my life, break down every idol and cast out every foe. I am thankful, Heavenly Father, for the _expression of Your will for my daily life as You have shown me in Your Word. I, therefore, claim all the will of God for today. I am thankful that You have blessed me with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. I am thankful that You have begotten me unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. I am thankful that You have made a provision so that today I can live filled with the Spirit of God with love and joy and peace, with long-suffering, gentleness and goodness, with meekness, faithfulness and self-control in my life. I recognize that this is Your will for me and I therefore reject and resist all the endeavors of satan and his wicked spirits to rob me of the will of god. I refuse in this day to believe my feelings and I hold up the Shield of Faith against all the accusations and distortion and insinuations that satan would put into my mind. I claim the fullness of the will of God for my life today. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I completely surrender myself to You, Heavenly Father, as a living sacrifice. I choose not to be conformed to this world. I choose to be transformed by the renewing of my mind, and I pray that You would show me Your will and enable me to walk in all the fullness of Your will today. I am thankful, Heavenly Father, that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, to the casting down of imagination and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge God, and to bring every thought into obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, in my own life today I tear down the strongholds of satan and smash the plans of satan that have been formed against me. I tear down the strongholds of satan against my mind, and I surrender my mind to You, blessed Holy Spirit. I affirm, Heavenly Father, that You have not given me the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of a sound mind. I break and smash the strongholds of satan formed against my emotions today and I give my emotions to you. I smash the strongholds of satan formed against my will today, I give my will to You and choose to make the right decisions of faith. I smash the strongholds of satan formed against my body today, I give my body to You recognizing that I am your temple. I rejoice in Your mercy and goodness. Heavenly Father, I pray that now and through this day You would strengthen and enlighten me. Show me the way satan is hindering and tempting and lying and distorting the truth in my life. Enable me to be the kind of person that would please You. Enable me to be aggressive in prayer and faith. Enable me to be aggressive mentally, to think about and practice Your Word, and to give You Your rightful place in my life. Again, I cover myself with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and pray that You, blessed Holy Spirit, would bring all the work of the crucifixion, all the work of the resurrection, all the work of the glorification, and all the work of Pentecost into my life today. I surrender myself to You. I refuse to be discouraged. You are the God of all hope. You have proven Your power by resurrecting Jesus Christ from the dead, and I claim in every way this victory over all the satanic forces in my life. I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ with thanksgiving and praise to You, alone. Amen.
mathematical prayer!? do you know any mathematical prayer using different terminologies?(add/adding/addition like that)...can you order it..the first stanza is thanksgiving the 2nd is adoration/praise..the 3rd is forgiveness..the last is supplication..thanks...its ok if it is short!
Do you ever use the ACTS method of prayer? (ACTS method: Admiration Confession Thanksgiving Supplication) If yes, when? All the time, just in group settings, for specific prayer, etc.? Thanks for sharing! :) God Bless You! :) Thanks for the book suggestion Daniel! I may check that out. :) I like all of the respones. :) I don't use ACTS every single time I pray, but I use it a lot. I'd like to put this to a vote; I just can't decide. :))
Do people go by these rules on thanksgiving? haha!!!? 10 RULES FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER AT MY HOUSE 1. Don't get in line asking questions about the food. "Who made the potato salad? Is it egg in there? They are not gonna tear my damn house up this year. This is not a DAYCARE CENTER! EVERYBODY GETS KICKED THE HELL OUT AT 11:00 pm. I got this on an email i thought it was funny :)
I grew up poor in Georgia now I am 19 getting a degree in microbiology and planning on working for the CDC soon but I know how it feels to be hungry and poor and its not great at all. so now I doing all I can as my part to try to alleviate hunger in the world.

There is this Johnny Cash song:? It's called "The Thanksgiving Prayer" and I can only find it on youtube... not direct audio file to buy. Where can I get it, or how can I record it off the video?
Christians: what is your "prayer life" like? Many Christians pray according to the "ACTS" method: A - Adoration of God C - Confession of sins to God T - Thanksgiving to God S - Supplication (or petitioning God for our needs and for the needs of others.) How do you pray?
u didnt get my question guyz? my question is a PRAYER..like heavenly father we offer u this wonderful day..just like that but it ur going to put diff. terminologies to make it a mathematical prayer. used the parts of the prayer..(thanksgiving,praise etc.)stanza by stanza..im not luking 4 z=????that kind of prayer..i hope it didnt offended u but that is wat im luking for
How and when to tell his kids we're pregnant? My boyfriend of nearly 2 years has two children who are 5 and 7. They are like my stepchildren. (Sadly, their biological mother views them as a paycheck and nothing more.) I am about 3 months pregnant, (and super excited!), and my boyfriend and I are unsure as to how and when we should tell his children. We were thinking Thanksgiving during prayer? Something like "And please bless the little baby growing in my tummy" Who else has done this before and how did you break the news? What was the reaction? Thanks! Yes, my BF was a total jerk in the beginning. He has since apologized and couldn't be more supportive. As for his daughter, we both sat down with her and explained that her disrespectfulness will not be tolerated, and we've not had any problems since then. ALSO, we are NOT going to be married just because I'm pregnant. We both went through nasty divorces and by getting married because I'm pregnant would be rushing things. Would my Christian brother's and sisters join me...??? In saying a prayer of thanksgiving for the safe birth of my friend's new baby. He was born 7 weeks premature but is doing well. Mom is well also. Dad is fighting in Afgahnistan and is on a Red Cross flight home to be with his new family. I will probably get cited with a violation for this but I don't care. Thanks for the prayers and support for the family.
Has anyone ever experienced a healing miracle? (St. Therese)? Many years ago, my dad who was a diabetic, had a horrible sore on his leg that wouldn't heal. It had been there for 3 mos. A woman at work had given me a Novena to St. Therese. I never had prayed a Novena before. About halfway through the Novena, I asked my mom how his leg was doing and she said - believe it or not, it's getting better! On the last day of the novena (the ninth day), his leg was completely healed. I went upstairs to say a prayer of thanksgiving. A voice urged me to read about St. Therese in my saint book. I put it off and the voice was stronger. I'm not saying I heard a voice, like I could hear someone in the same room talk to me, but it was like a strong voice in my head. I looked her up and read the story. It said that people who make a Novena to St. Therese are often given a rose as a sign that she's listening. I counted back to the first day I had started the Novena and remembered that my brother had given me a rose on that day! Praise GOD! Eldad9 - Thank you for taking the time to comments, but it couldn't have been the placebo effect because my dad didn't know I was praying for him until it was over. My dad was a non-practicing Jew, so I wasn't sure how he felt about novenas. Turns out he was very grateful and believed that my prayers were answered! It wasn't a coincidence. A horrible diabetic sore on a leg that was there for 3 months, doesn't just disappear in 9 days coincidentally. Have faith! David - thanks for your comment. Blessed be God forever! I read a book by Benny Hinn called "Good Morning Holy Spirit". It was an awesome book - I read it many years ago and never forgot it.
What do peeps think about this? Sorry it's a bit long!!!? To My precious child: Because I knew even before I created the earth that you would accept My love for you, and that you would seek to know Me thus… In the beginning I created the heavens and the earth. Then at the right time and in the right place I created you. I created your inner most being, I created every part of you, I knit you together in your mother's womb. You were carefully and wonderfully made; my works are wonderful, and you My precious child are my work. My eyes saw your unformed body. All the days planned for you were written in my book before one of them came to be. How precious are my thoughts for you, How great is the number of them! If you were to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. Listen to me, My precious child; I created you and have cared for you since before you were born. I will be your God throughout your lifetime, until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you. I will carry you in my arms, holding you close to my heart. For I know the plans that I have for you plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. My precious child there are some times of suffering in your life. But the temporary suffering of this life does not compare to the glory that shall be revealed in you. Know this that I am with you and I will help you. Your help comes from me, I am the God who created the heavens and the earth, and the one who created you. I will never leave you, I will never reject you. When your parents fail you I will pick you up, hold you close, and adopt you. Nothing can ever separate you from my love for you. When you are in trouble and distress my love is with you. When you are persecuted my love is with you. When you are hungry and cold and naked my love is with you, I am always with you. When you are in danger and threatened with death my love is with you, I will be with you forever. My precious child know that nothing can separate you from my love, no matter how high you go, no matter how deep you sink, nothing in life and not even death can separate you from Me, and My love for you. No demon or any other power in hell can separate you from my love. My love for you is revealed through Christ Jesus your Lord. In all things and every situation you will have victory, you will conquer, because the victory of Christ Jesus is your victory. But now, My precious child, I the LORD, who created you and formed you, says: Do not be afraid, for I have purchased you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, they will not over flow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned. I command you to be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid; do not be dismayed, for I, the LORD your God will be with you everywhere you go. My precious child, know that everything will work together for your good, because you love me. You have been called according to my purpose. For I knew you before you were born and I predestined you to be conformed to the likeness of my Son, Jesus Christ. This is your destiny, and this is your purpose, that you become one with my Son Jesus, and thus one with me. I created you in my image so that you and I can express love to each other. The most intimate relationship you can have is with me because you and I are becoming one. You and your brothers and sisters that believe in me are becoming one with Jesus, and thus one with me. You in me, and me in you, together, unified by my love for you. You were designed for this purpose, nothing else will ever satisfy your deepest needs, your deepest desires, only I can. Because you seek to know me I satisfy your heart with love, joy, and peace that only I can give you. My precious child if you should forget me, and enter into sin, and not turn back to Me on your own then I will punish you. Because your sin will separate you from feeling My presence, and My influence, and I want you to return to your first love, the One who loves you. I the Lord discipline those I love, and I punish everyone who I accept as my child. Just as a good Father disciplines His children to turn them away from a dangerous path, so I shall discipline you for your good, that you may share in My holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. My precious child, When you confess your sins, I am faithful and just and will forgive you of your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. In repentance and resting in Me is your salvation, in quietness and trusting Me is your strength. I will create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you. I will not send you away from My presence, and I will not take My Holy Spirit from you. I will restore again the joy of your salvation, and make you willing to obey Me. Then you will teach My ways to sinners, and they will return to Me also. Humble yourself, therefore, under My mighty hand, that I may lift you up at the right time. My precious child do not forget all my benefits, I forgive all your sins and heal all your diseases, I rescue your life from the pit of destruction and crown you with love and compassion. I satisfy your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagles. I The LORD work righteousness and justice for all the oppressed; I The LORD am compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. I will not always accuse, nor will I harbor my anger forever; I do not treat you as your sins deserve or repay you according to your iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is My love for you because you fear Me; as far as the east is from the west, so far have I removed your transgressions from you. My precious child, call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. Always pray to Me about your every concern, pray from your mouth and pray from your heart, I hear every thought that you think. Everything that you care about, I care about also because it concerns you. Cast all your cares and anxiety on Me because I love you. Trust in Me, the LORD YOUR GOD, with all your heart, do not depend on your own understanding; In everything acknowledge Me, And I will direct your paths. Do not worry about anything, but in everything big or small, by prayer, with thanksgiving, present your requests to Me, the Most High God. And I will give you My peace in your heart, peace that is beyond all human understanding, and it will guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus. Always be joyful. Keep on praying always. No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is My will for you because you belong to Me. My precious child, Study My Book of law and truth, the Holy Bible, do not let My words depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. My words are Spirit and they are Life. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you will, and it will be given you. For the word of God is living and powerful. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. The most important thing you will ever own is your Bible because it gives you knowledge of Me, The Most High God. It makes the poor rich, it gives hope to the hopeless, faith to the fearful, food to the hungry, water to the thirsty, love to the despised, comfort to the lonely, freedom to the prisoner, health to the sick, light in the darkness, and life to the dying. My precious child I have set up circumstances and situations in your life to cause you to seek Me and find Me. I desire that you know Me. I am The Lord your God, full of compassion, and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But My precious child glory in this, That you understand and know Me, That I am the LORD, exercising compassion, lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight and take pleasure. All things are created for My pleasure and My pleasure is to show forth loving compassion. I have compassion on the poor and needy, and I am a Father to the fatherless, I help them, and I defend them. Far below Me are the heavens and the earth, I stoop to look down, and I lift the poor from the dirt and the needy from the garbage dump and I set them among princes. My precious child I want you to do these things also, have compassion on the poor and needy and help them, this is what it means to know Me. For I am Love, and when you live in love, you live in Me, and I live in you. Loving compassion is good, and this is what I require from you, to do what is right, to love compassion, and to walk humbly with your God. As a father has compassion on his children, so I your LORD have compassion on you because you fear Me; for I know how you were formed, I remember that you are dust. Forever and ever My love is with you because you fear Me, and My righteousness with your children's children; with those who keep My covenant and remember to obey My laws. My law is to love. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments all of My laws are based. When you walk in love you are obeying all My laws. When you walk in Love you are walking in My Holy Spirit for I AM LOVE! My precious child come and live in My shelter, in the protection of the Most High God, you will find rest in the presence of the Almighty. You will say, "This I declare of the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I am trusting him." My precious child I will rescue you from every trap and protect you from the fatal plague. I will shield you with My wings. I will shelter you with My feathers. My faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor fear the dangers of the day, nor dread the plague that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. But you will see it with your eyes; you will see how the wicked are punished. Because you My precious child make the LORD your refuge, because you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your dwelling. For I order My angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you with their hands to keep you from striking your foot on a stone. You will trample down lions and poisonous snakes; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! My precious child, My servant, and My friend, whom I have chosen, I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will hold you up with my righteous right hand. All who come against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, for I myself will help you declares the LORD, your Redeemer. You will rejoice in the LORD and glory in the Holy One of Israel. My precious child, when you asked Me to forgive your sins and come into your heart I sent My Holy Spirit into you to comfort you, to give you power, and as proof to you that I have adopted you as My child. The Holy Spirit shall lead you into all truth because He shall testify of Jesus, and He will give you power to testify of Jesus. I will speak to you through My Holy Spirit that is in you, He will tell you what is right and wrong, what is love and hate. My Holy Spirit is a gentle whisper inside your heart telling you the path to walk in. If you walk in My Spirit you will walk in love, you will not sin. And you will see great and mighty things happen before you, they will not be accomplished by strength, nor by outside force, but by My Spirit says the LORD ALMIGHTY. Through My Holy Spirit I shall give you supernatural gifts that you may be blessed, and that you shall bless others through demonstrating My love for them. My Holy Spirit will be with you through out your whole life, and after I will receive you into My glory. I your LORD say to you I will rescue you because you love me. I will protect you because you trust in my name. When you call on me, I will answer; I will be with you in trouble. I will rescue you and honor you. I will satisfy you with a long life and give you my salvation. Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. It is your destiny.

Aren’t you glad? That if you are raped or murdered that the rapist/murderer is more likely to be a good god fearing Christian than some godless atheist, statistically speaking of course. Hay, he might even say a prayer of thanksgiving and praise while you are being violated. Makes you feel warm all over doesn’t it?
